Sunday April 13, 2003.
I spent most of the day in the motel, staying out of
the sun and catching up on chores such as my laundry and expense accounting. But when the sun was low enough in the
sky not to burn me any further, I ventured out and along highway 163 north to the Utah state line, 19 miles away, just after
which one finds the access road to Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, which was made famous as the setting for many
John Wayne cowboy movies.
What I found there really took me by surprise.
I've seen plenty of pictures of buttes and mesas before, and I saw most of John Wayne's movies too, but to actually be in
this place is quite a moving experience.
