If the scene is pretty much completely mid tone, with no real white in
the frame, then the mid tones will be rendered more beautifully by the film scanner or digital camera, because they can
be exposed in the brightest stop, and thereby be defined more accurately by the greater bit density of the ADC in the brightest
stop.
