I stayed for a few months in San Diego, California, back in 1999. I bought an old car there, a 1985 Toyota Cressida.
When my time was finished in San Diego I disposed of all my belongings, except the car. It was such a good old car,
in excellent condition and very nice to drive.
In April 2000, I drove the car up the west coast to Seattle and left it in the care of my dear friends, Heather and Remick
Merry. On the way through northern California, I was awestruck and overwhelmed by the sight of the giant Redwood
trees in the Humboldt State Forest. Walking among such magnificent living organisms, some of them over three hundred
feet high and hundreds of years old, was like a kind of religious experience.
I realised how brief a human life is, and vowed that I wasn't going to spend the rest of mine in an air conditioned office
with unhealthily tinted and sealed windows.
I made a plan to return to the U.S. in the future so I could drive the car right across the country, through many
of the beautiful places I had seen in magazines and movies.
So here I am now, back in the U.S. to embark on the road trip of a lifetime - Seattle to Florida, via the Rocky Mountains.
I want to share this adventure with you, so please come back and visit this site from time to time, and follow my progress
as I post each day's sample photos and "Captain's Log".
